From Incarceration to Transformation: The New Hanover County Jail Reimagined
Hear from Ben David and Meade Van Pelt of the Community Justice Center and The Harrelson Center (respectively)
This program will highlight a remarkable local redevelopment project: the transformation of the former New Hanover County jail into the new Community Justice Center.
We will explore not only the architectural and adaptive reuse elements that brought new life to this historic facility, but also the powerful community impact now taking place within its walls. What was once a symbol of incarceration has been thoughtfully reimagined into a hub of hope and healing. The Community Justice Center, along with the neighboring Harrelson Center, now houses a diverse network of non-profits serving some of the most critical — and often overlooked — needs in our region.
Program Format:
Main Presentation: A presentation from Ben David and Meade Van Pelt
Lobby Showcase: Before and after the program, stop by the Harrelson Center table to check out information on the array of non-profits hosted by the Center.
